Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of population on economic growth in West Sumatra Province in 2021–2024. This study uses a quantitative method with a simple linear regression approach. The data used are secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), including population data and economic growth rates. The analysis results show that population has a positive relationship with economic growth, as indicated by a regression coefficient value of 0.00437. The correlation coefficient (Multiple R) value of 0.760 indicates a fairly strong relationship between population and economic growth. However, the results of statistical tests indicate that the effect of population on economic growth is not significant, with a significance value of 0.2399, which is greater than the 5 percent significance level.
