Abstract

Peace of mind is a basic human need that can only be achieved through a spiritual process or stage. In the Sufi tradition, peace and closeness to Allah SWT are not obtained instantly, but through a gradual and continuous spiritual process. A servant is required to go through certain stages to cleanse the soul and achieve this peace. Therefore, this study aims to examine the concept of maqamat in Sufism as a spiritual path that leads humans to a deeper knowledge of Allah. The method used is a literature study, data collected from various written sources such as scientific journals, research reports, and other supporting literature relevant to the discussion of maqamat. The results of the study are that in Sufism, maqamat is the position of a servant in the sight of Allah which is achieved through earnest efforts in carrying out riyadhah, worship and mujahaddah. The efforts made follow what has been formulated by previous Sufis such as Taubat, Wara', Sabar, Faqir, Zuhud, Ridha, Tawakkal.
